Borealis Counselling Services is an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) Service provider of choice for the community. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section below for more information:
1. What is an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP)?
An EFAP is a benefit provided by your employer; there is no cost to you, the employee. An EFAP assists employees and their family members when they need help with any number of issues that have an impact on individual, family and workplace wellness and health.
2. When or why would I use the EFAP?
Although most of the time we have the ability to deal with our concerns and stressors, it is often more helpful than we think to talk to a professional. Our qualified and experienced counsellors are caring and compassionate, and will assist you to clarify the issue of concern, provide an objective assessment of the situation, and discuss options in moving forward.
3. Can my employer make me go to Borealis Counselling Services?
The services and supports at Borealis Counselling Services are voluntary and you cannot be forced to attend. There are circumstances however, where your employer may request that you attend as a condition of employment.
4. How does the EFAP benefit my family members?
Any of the services and supports available to you through the EFAP are also available to your immediate family members, including your children/dependents who are covered by your extended health benefits, as well as elderly parents living in your household for whom you are the primary caregiver.
5. I want to access the services at Borealis Counselling Services but am not sure what to expect.
Your first contact will be with our Intake Coordinator, who will collect some basic demographic information, get a general sense of what type of services you require, and book your first appointment. Subsequent appointments will be arranged between you and your counsellor at a mutually convenient time. Please advise the Intake Coordinator if you are dealing with an urgent issue, and every effort will be made for you to be seen as soon as possible. Sessions are 50 minutes in duration and typically booked every couple of weeks, or as needed.
