How to Refer Employees
The most common referral approaches include the following:
An informal referral takes place when, in discussion with an employee, the supervisor or manager becomes aware that they are struggling with a personal or work related problem. Reminding the employee that the EFAP is available to assist them and encouraging them to contact Borealis Counselling Services to set up an appointment constitutes an informal referral. From a supervisory or management perspective, this is where your responsibility and knowledge of what the employee decides to do will typically end.
Mandated or Formal Referral
Note: It is important to understand that the services and supports available through Borealis Counselling Services are voluntary. Borealis Counselling Services does not have the mandate, power, or authority to force anyone to seek or accept help.
Borealis Counselling Services staff are available for consultation regarding the most effective way to encourage employees to access services.
