|Many of us struggle with low self-esteem. Thoughts such as, “you’re not good enough”, “you can’t do it”, and “you’ll fail, why bother trying” can discourage us from following our dreams, and negatively impact our relationships.
In addition, low self-esteem can affect different areas of our lives. For example, some people struggle with body image, others doubt their competence, while some experience consistent guilt and shame. A common theme is a harsh inner critic – that constant negative inner voice.
Counselling can help you identify this internal critic, how it works, and the resulting impact on one’s emotions. A key goal in increasing self-esteem is learning how to intentionally become more compassionate towards oneself. Counselling can help you to identify core beliefs that lead to low self-esteem, become more assertive in your relationships, learn to trust yourself, identify your values and strengths, and connect to a more authentic self.
